Death & Dying Editorial Review
When a beloved pet dies, it can be a heartbreaking experience for a child. Fred Rogers’ “When a Pet Dies” is an excellent guide for parents to help their children understand and cope with the loss of a pet. The book is written in a straightforward and honest manner that is easy for children to understand. While the topic of death can be difficult, Rogers handles it with grace and kindness. The book explains the burial process but does not give an alternative option such as cremation. It uses realistic and factual language, making it a great tool for parents to help their children understand death in a way that is not too morbid. The book has helped many parents and children deal with the grieving process. The pictures may be outdated, but they capture the charm and cuteness of the pets that children can easily relate to. Overall, “When a Pet Dies” is an excellent resource for parents who need a comforting and informative guide to help their children understand and accept the passing of a beloved pet.
